YIOTIS S.A. was founded in 1930 and today employs more than 370 employees, exports to the 5 continents and has an annual turnover exceeding €70m. Products manufactured in its Athens-based facilities include cereal based baby foods, powder mixes for baking and cooking, chocolates, syrups and chilled desserts. The company’s staff is highly educated and constantly trained. Disciplines employed lie in the field of Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Food Technology and Chemical Engineering.
At YIOTIS research is coordinated by the Research & Development department. Its expenditures account for 3% of the company’s annual turnover, indicating the company’s orientation towards research.
For the past 20 years, YIOTIS S.A. has participated in more than 30 National and European Research Projects mostly as coordinator. The company’s organizational scheme combines its highly educated workforce to ensure the necessary administrative and technical support of any large-scale project.
The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH) founded in 2000 is one of the leading Research centres in Greece and listed among the TOP-20 E.U. research institutions with the highest participation in competitive research grants.
CERTH has important scientific and technological achievements in many areas including: Energy, Environment, Industry, Mechatronics, Information & Communication, Transportation & Sustainable Mobility, Health, Agro-biotechnology, Smart farming, Safety & Security, as well as several cross-disciplinary scientific areas.
IMBB-BR was founded in 1998 as an independent institute and in 2001 joined the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) becoming its seventh Institute under the name “Biomedical Research Institute – BRI”. In the beginning of 2012, BRI, located in Ioannina, and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB), located in Heraklion merged into an institute that retained the name IMBB with BRI forming its Ioannina based Division of Biomedical Research (IMBB-BR).
Whereas the aim of IMBB is to conduct basic and applied research in molecular biology and its use for the development of applications in biotechnology and biomedical applications, IMBB-BR is responsible for the development of basic and applied biomedical research and technology, as well as their applications, with particular emphasis on regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
